Snake Breaking:
|
|
In some parts of the country like the Southeast
you and your dog must be prepared to come in contact
with venomous snakes including Copperheads, Eastern
Diamond Backs, Water Moccasins (Cotton Mouths) etc. (See
Photo of Eastern Diamond Back). Many hunters hope to
take a proactive approach to the inevitable crossing of
paths with these dangerous reptiles by training there
dogs to move away from snakes. Of course it’s usually
not the visible ones that bite but any decrease in
contact with a venomous snake is a good thing for both
dogs and people. With the aid of an e-collar and a
unwilling poisonous participant hunter/trainers try to
instill a fear of snakes in order to protect their dogs
from severe injury or even death. |

The
Eastern Diamond Back can grow to be over six
feet in length. While only 10% of snake bites
are lethal to dogs, considerable tissue damage
along with disfigurement and disability may
occur. Most snake bites occur in Spring and
Summer months since snakes are predominantly
inactive during cooler weather. |
