German Hunting Horns

"During the 16th and 17th century the hunt stood for all that was desirable in worldly virtue, representing a new embodiment of the older courtly ideals."
In keeping with earlier courtly hunting traditions Germans often used hunting horns to celebrate hunting events.
Still today, German hunters use hunting horns instead of walkie talkies to signal each other in the field.
Since every animal is considered to be a respected creature, the hunters honor it by playing a salute on the hunting horns for each species harvested.
In Germany it is not uncommon to here hunting horn music during stag hunts. Different horn calls are used for various stages of the hunt. When a stag is killed the buglers surround the animal and play calls to celebrate the successful hunt.”
